College Football Week Two Preview
Week one of the 2009 college football season will go down as the most memorable opening week in the history of the state of Oklahoma. Oklahoma State won against a ranked team, OU lost against a team ranked 18 spots lower than them, and Tulsa beat a conference opponent on the road. In the next few paragraphs I'm going to address the local fanbases individually. This will be a little like Lou Holtz's "Pep Talks" except without all the spitting and nonsense.
Oklahoma State
Great win guys. You overcame a slow start and put the game out of reach by taking advantage of your opportunities. But let's put this in perspective. The national title buzz (though fun to talk about) is a little premature. The Big 12 if a tough conference and there's a long way to go. I feel like some people are going to be dissappointed with a 10 win season, which would be a great season. Remember, nothing is ever as good as it seems and nothing is ever as bad as it seems.
Oklahoma
Ouch. This loss stings. But fire Bob Stoops? Are you sure you want to do that? It's really hard to find a good coach. It took OU three coaches, eleven years, and three losing seasons to find a good coach after Switzer. It's not that bad. Oklahoma could rebound and have a 10 win season which is very good (this might be where the representitive from OU yells out "THAT'S A LIE). Remember, nothing is ever as good as it seems and nothing is ever as bad as it seems.
Tulsa
Good job Tulsa. Keep it up.
Arkansas
So you guys had 447 yards passing? In 2007 (the last year under Houston Nutt) it took Arkansas three full games to reach over 450 yards passing.
Picks
Tulsa at New Mexico
The Hurricane just keep rolling by plugging in good quarterbacks into their system. G.J. Kinne is a dual threat QB that can burn teams with his arm and his legs.
Tulsa 38 New Mexico 27
Idaho State at Oklahoma
The only suspense going in to this game will be whether or not Landry Jones will keep his mustache. Last week, when Bradford went down not only did Landry look very worried, but I think he knew that his awful mustache was being seen by everyone in the stadium on the biggest HD television screen in the world.
Oklahoma 58 Idaho State 7
Houston at Oklahoma State
This week we'll really see whether OSU's defense is improved or if Georgia's offense is just really bad. Last year Houston scored 37 points on OSU and was leading at halftime. Oklahoma State will win this game with a healthy dose of Kendall Hunter up the middle and Dez Bryant on the edge.
